Fabrikken som rammemodel for nyt Art-Space i Dar es Salaam, Tanzania


Fabrikken som et kunstnerdrevet sted og organisation, skal fungere som en ramme model for etableringen af NAFASI, Art-space Dar-es Salam. De kommende 3 år (2009-12) vil den daglige ledelse fra Fabrikken have tæt kontakt til stedet, og forskellige kunstnere rejse til Dar es Salaam for at deltage i stedet og lave workshops, og vice versa. Fred Halla er pr.1.2.2010 ansat som daglig leder af NAFASI Art-space.
Center for kultur og udvikling (CKU/DCCD) indgik et samarbejde med Fabrikken omkring opstarten af et Art-Space i Tanzania. Forudgående har den danske ambassade i Dar es Salaam i fællesskab med CKU researchet på den lokale kunst og kulturscenes ønsker og behov. Den store målsætning blev at skabe et ikke-kommercielt udstillingssted og værkstedshus. I efteråret 2008 var Fabrikkens daglige leder Camilla Nørgård første gang i Dar es Salaam for sammen med lokale aktører at finde de rette lokaler til det nye Art-Space.

The art space, NAFASI, has recently been launched in Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.
NAFASI is situated in the Mikucheni light industrial district, and there for a little outside the busy commercial centre of DAR.
Approximately 15 artists will be able to work there, each of them under a 2-year contract.
Art Space Nafasi will also house exhibitions, events and, it is hoped, an artist-in-residence program, and will therefore be the centre for visual arts in Dar.
The primary objective is to bring together all those artists and excellent initiatives which, until now, have been spread out all over city, and thereby provide a platform for not only local and domestic, but also international dialogue.
Since February 1st, 2010, the director of NAFASI has been Fred Halla.
The Factory (Fabrikken for Kunst og Design) is pleased and proud to have the opportunity to provide experiential support to, and follow the development of NAFASI over the next 3 years.
The establishment of Art Space NAFASI is a part of DCCD’s cultural program in Tanzania.
