COLD FACTS/ HOT ENCHANTMENT

Anna Líndals soloudstilling Cold Facts/Hot Enchantment på Fabrikken for Kunst og Design er kulminationen på en arbejdsproces som har taget flere år. Líndal bor og arbejder i Island, og i de senere år har hun forfulgt en interesse i at undersøge landskabets kompleksitet i samarbejde med en række forskere. Siden 1997 har Líndal deltaget på årlige ekspeditioner med Icelandic Glaciological Society og en tilbagevendende lokalitet for disse er Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull er Europas største gletscher og dækker et område som er større end Sjælland. Resultatet af det indsamlede materiale præsenteres i en totalinstallation i Fabrikkens 1000 m² store produktionshal.  Stærke, farvestrålende nylonremme, som normalt benyttes til at sikre udstyret på ekspeditioner, forbinder otte kvadratiske hvide blokke i en dynamisk installation. I denne konstellation fremstår blokkene både som vægge fra en brudt hvid kube - det opløste udstillingsrum - samtidig med, at den hvide farve refererer til det islandske landskab. I kernen af installationens rum fremvises videoer med billede og lydmateriale optaget under ekspeditionerne i næsten uredigeret form. Cold Facts / Hot Enchantment markerer en ny fase i Lindals oeuvre, idet denne udstilling er det første store projekt hun realiserer efter at have været professor på Iceland Academy of the Arts i ni år. Udstillingen reflekterer derfor over udviklingen af en kunstnerisk praksis og den bevægelse som er foregået. Samtidig er projektet båret af en interesse i at udforske menneskets søgen efter svar og behovet for at forstå naturens kræfter.

Udvalgte gruppeudstillinger: 1997 Istanbul Biennalen; 2000 Kwangju Biennalen; 2006 Magasin CNAC, Grenoble. Fra 2000-2009 var Anna Líndal professor på The Iceland Academy of the Arts.

COLD FACTS/ HOT ENCHANTMENT

Anna Líndal’s solo exhibition, Cold Facts/Hot Enchantment, at The Factory of Art & Design, is the culmination of a work process which has spanned several years. Líndal lives and works in Iceland, and in more recent years, she has pursued an interest in investigating the complexity of the landscape in collaboration with a number of researchers. Since 1997, she has participated in annual expeditions with the Icelandic Glaciological Society, and a recurring destination for these expeditions is Vatnajökull. Vatnajökull is Europe’s largest glacier, and covers an area which is greater than Zealand in Denmark.  The result of the collected material is now presented in The Factory’s spacious 1000 m² production hall, where Líndal’s installation is stretched out between the corners of this substantial space. Strong, brightly coloured nylon straps, which are normally used to harness equipment on the expeditions, connect eight large white square blocks in a dynamic installation. The blocks represent the walls of a broken white cube - the dissolved exhibition space - while their white colour references the Icelandic landscape. At the core of the installation, videos are shown, consisting of images and sound recorded entirely during the expeditions to Vatnajökull. Cold Facts/Hot Enchantment marks a new phase in Líndal’s oeuvre, in that this exhibition is the first large scale project, which she has realized, since ending her nine-year professorship at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. The exhibition reflects on the development, direction and journey of an artistic practice. The project is also borne of an interest in investigating the human quest for answers, and the need to understand the forces of nature.
